These freezy breezy prep-ahead cocktails will keep Christmas fresh
Here’s a familiar scene. You’ve promised everyone cocktails at the Christmas shindig and now all eyes are on your below-average shaking skills. Fear not. Festive freezer-door cocktails are here to save Christmas Day (and some money too). Just mix them up and pop them in the freezer till sipping season.
Night before Christmas Negroni
Kick off the festivities Italian-style with a spicy yuletide aperitivo. Infused with cupboard-staple cardamom and cinnamon for extra punch, these soul-warming Negronis will easily give mulled wine a run for its money.
Mrs. Claus’ Margarita
For seconds, pair your turkey dinner with a sweet, sour, citrus-fuelled clementine marg that doesn’t hold back its zing. Those limes rolling around the back of your fridge will have never tasted better.
Total time 5 mins
- 200ml gin
- 200ml Campari
- 200ml vermouth
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 cardamom pod
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 orange (just the peel)
Step 1 Pop all your ingredients in a 650ml bottle and leave it in the freezer to chill.
Did you know? Because of the alcohol quantity, it shouldn’t freeze completely so you can serve the cocktail straight away.
Step 2 Serve it over a big cube of ice with your orange peel garnish.
Top tip: Make sure you use a strainer so none of the aromatics come out of the bottle whilst pouring.

- 400ml tequila
- 100ml clementine juice
- 100 ml lime juice
- 200ml triple sec
Step 1 Pour all your ingredients into an 800ml bottle and pop it in the freezer.
Step 2 Put some sea salt on a small plate and sprinkle over your clementine zest. Wet the rim of your glass with the clementine juice, then dip it into the salt to get a salt-dusted edge.
Step 3 Fill your glass up with the margarita mix and get sipping.
