So we&#8217;re giving them the opportunity they deserve, check out our amped up versions below.<\/p>\n<h2>Sprouts, Shallots, Chestnuts And Bacon<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gousto.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Christmas_Shoot_20283.jpg\" alt=\"Sprouts, Shallots, Chestnuts and Bacon recipe\" width=\"5760\" height=\"3240\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>a couple of handfuls of sprouts, tailed<\/li>\n<li>a couple of handfuls of shallots, peeled and left whole<\/li>\n<li>a couple of handfuls of vacuum packed chestnuts<\/li>\n<li>a few rashers of chopped smoked bacon, or the same quantity of pancetta<\/li>\n<li>a very large knob of butter<\/li>\n<li>a handful of fresh sage, chopped (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Heat a large, wide-based pan over a high heat with a large drizzle of vegetable oil<\/li>\n<li>Add the bacon and shallots and cook for 5 min or until coloured and caramelised<\/li>\n<li>Add the sprouts, chestnuts, sage and the butter, cover with a lid and cook for a further 5 min, then season and serve<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Carrots With Orange And Star Anise<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7192\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gousto.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Christmas_Shoot_20264.jpg\" alt=\" Carrots With Orange and Star Anise recipe\" width=\"5760\" height=\"3240\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>300g carrots, peeled and cut into quarters lengthways<\/li>\n<li>200ml orange juice<\/li>\n<li>100g butter<\/li>\n<li>1 star anise<\/li>\n<li>a large pinch of salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Add the carrots, orange juice, butter, star anise and salt to a pot and bring to a gentle boil over a medium high heat<\/li>\n<li>Cook until the carrots are tender and the orange juice has reduced, then serve with the reduction<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Braised Red Cabbage, Apples, Balsamic And Sultanas<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7190\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gousto.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Christmas_Shoot_202811.jpg\" alt=\"Braised Red Cabbage, Apples, Balsamic and Sultanas recipe\" width=\"5760\" height=\"3240\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>1 small red cabbage, shredded<\/li>\n<li>1 red onion, peeled and finely sliced<\/li>\n<li>2 tart apples, peeled, cored and finely sliced<\/li>\n<li>200ml balsamic vinegar<\/li>\n<li>2 tbsp brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>60g sultanas<\/li>\n<li>salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Heat a large, wide based pan over a medium high heat with a large drizzle of vegetable oil<\/li>\n<li>Add the cabbage, onion and a large pinch of salt and cook for 10 min or until softened<\/li>\n<li>Add the apple, balsamic, sugar and sultanas and 150ml water, cover with a lid and cook for 40 -50 min further or until really soft.<\/li>\n<li>Season and serve<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Why not try following your Christmas dinner\u00a0with one of our festive dessert ideas, like our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gousto.co.uk\/blog\/snowman-panna-cotta-recipe\">Snowmanna Cotta<\/a><\/strong> (snowman panna cotta) or our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gousto.co.uk\/blog\/recipes\/how-to-make-chocolate-christmas-pudding-recipe\">Chocolate Christmas Pudding<\/a><\/strong>?
