Inspired by the iconic Red Wedding feast in Game of Thrones, this hearty meat pie is one you won\u2019t forget. Tender venison and pork in a rich red wine sauce, topped with pastry and cooked to golden perfection \u2013 you\u2019ll definitely agree it&#8217;s fit for the iron throne.<\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17690\" src=\"https:\/\/gousto.gurucloud.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/6185-Venison-Red-Wedding-Pie0485-1692020027589.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"2048\" \/>Ingredients<\/h2>\n<p>For 2 people [double for 4]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 brown onion<\/li>\n<li>8ml soy sauce<\/li>\n<li>1 dried bay leaf<\/li>\n<li>32g tomato paste<\/li>\n<li>2 venison &amp; pork burgers<\/li>\n<li>5.5g beef stock mix<\/li>\n<li>160g puff pastry<\/li>\n<li>2 medium parsnips<\/li>\n<li>10g red wine paste<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp dried thyme<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You\u2019ll also need<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Flour, Sugar, Pepper, Butter &amp; Oil.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Cooking instructions 30 mins<\/h2>\n<p>For 2 people [double for 4]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before you begin&#8230; this recipe takes around 5 min [10 min] to prep, so get your oven-proof dish and all your ingredients ready, then wash your fruit and veg.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<div data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"drqvf\" data-offset-key=\"ntcq-0-0\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\" data-offset-key=\"ntcq-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"ntcq-0-0\">Now, let&#8217;s get started! <\/span>Preheat the oven to 220\u00b0C\/ 200\u00b0C (fan) \/ gas 7 and boil half a kettle. <span data-offset-key=\"754me-0-0\">Heat a large, wide-based pan (preferably non-stick) with a drizzle of <\/span><span data-offset-key=\"754me-0-1\">vegetable oil<\/span><span data-offset-key=\"754me-0-2\"> over a medium-high heat. <\/span><span data-offset-key=\"44npm-0-0\">Add the <\/span><span data-offset-key=\"44npm-0-1\">venison and pork burgers<\/span><span data-offset-key=\"44npm-0-2\"> and break them up with a wooden spoon, then cook for 3-4 min or until beginning to brown.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"drqvf\" data-offset-key=\"44npm-0-0\">\n<div data-offset-key=\"44npm-0-0\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Step 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dust your work surface with a generous sprinkling of flour. Unwrap the puff pastry and roll it out with a rolling pin until it is large enough to cover the oven proof dish[es].<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Peel and chop the brown onion[s] into wedges. Add the chopped onion to the pan with 1 tsp [2 tsp] flour and the dried thyme. Give everything a good mix up and add 200ml [375ml] boiled water with the tomato paste, beef stock mix, soy sauce, bay leaf[ves] and red wine paste. Bring to the boil over a high heat \u2013 this is your pie mix.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Transfer the pie mix to an oven-proof dish (or 2!) Top the pie mix with the rolled pastry and crimp round the edge with a fork. Score a cross in the middle of the pastry and put it in the oven for 20-22 min or until puffed up and golden and the meat is cooked through (no pink meat!) \u2013 this is your venison, pork and red wine pie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Top, tail and chop the parsnips into quarters lengthways, then into batons. Add the parsnip batons to a baking tray with a pinch of sugar, a knob of butter and a grind of pepper. Put the tray in the oven for 20-22 min or until tender \u2013 these are your caramelised parsnips.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-offset-key=\"b1hmd-0-0\">Serve the <\/span><span data-offset-key=\"b1hmd-0-1\">venison, pork &amp; red wine pie <\/span><span data-offset-key=\"b1hmd-0-2\">with the<\/span><span data-offset-key=\"b1hmd-0-3\"> caramelised parsnips <\/span><span data-offset-key=\"b1hmd-0-4\">to the side. <\/span>Let everyone dig in!<\/p>\n<div data-offset-key=\"fivr3-0-0\"><\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"fivr3-0-0\"><\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"fivr3-0-0\"><\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"fivr3-0-0\"><\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"fivr3-0-0\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Game of Thrones, Arya serves Walder Frey a revenge pie.
