[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The first apple crumble of the season is as much a milestone as pulling on the first woolly jumper, or crunching through a pile of fallen leaves.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve really embraced autumn by taking our crumble game to the next level. It uses a flapjack pie crust, made of thin, crunchy, honey oat flapjack that\u2019s topped with cinnamon stewed apples and a golden crumble.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s not to love? Here\u2019s how to make it.<\/p>\n

\"\"Ingredients<\/b><\/p>\n

Serves 8<\/p>\n

Flapjack\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

110g butter<\/p>\n

4tbsp honey<\/p>\n

180g whole oats<\/p>\n

Extra butter and flour to line the tin<\/p>\n

Fruit Filling<\/b><\/p>\n

2 non Bramley apples<\/p>\n

1 Bramley apple<\/p>\n

2 tbsp brown sugar<\/p>\n

\u00bd tsp cinnamon<\/p>\n

Crumble Topping<\/b><\/p>\n

60g butter<\/p>\n

60g caster sugar<\/p>\n

120g plain flour<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s get started! For the flapjack base:<\/b><\/p>\n

Step 1:<\/b> Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 4\/180C\/160C Fan. Butter an 8 inch pie dish, lightly dust with flour.<\/p>\n

Step 2:<\/b> Melt the butter and honey in a pan and stir to combine. Add oats and mix until coated.<\/p>\n

Step 3: <\/b>Pour the oats into the prepared dish and flatten, pushing the mixture up the sides with a spatula to form a pie crust. Don\u2019t worry \u2013 this will shrink in the oven, and you can reshape when it\u2019s still warm (but not hot!)<\/p>\n

Step 4:<\/b> Bake in the oven for 18 minutes.<\/p>\n

Now let\u2019s make the apple filling!\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Step 5:<\/b> While the base cooks, peel, core and roughly chop the apples. Cook in a saucepan with the brown sugar and 50ml water for 10 mins until soft.<\/p>\n

Time to make the crumble topping:<\/b><\/p>\n

Step 6<\/b>: In a mixing bowl rub together the flour, butter and sugar between your thumb and finger pads until it forms a fine breadcrumb texture.<\/p>\n

Step 7: <\/b>Remove the flapjack from the oven. Let it cool slightly, and reshape the flapjack into a pie crust if needed.<\/p>\n

Step 8: <\/b>Turn the oven up to Gas Mark 6\/200C\/180C Fan. Pour off most of the apple liquid, keeping about 1 tbsp. Put that and the apples onto the flapjack and cover with the crumble topping.<\/p>\n

Step 9: <\/b>Bake for a further 25 minutes until golden brown on top.<\/p>\n
