{"id":14517,"date":"2020-08-12T12:00:41","date_gmt":"2020-08-12T11:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gousto.co.uk\/blog\/?p=14517"},"modified":"2025-10-15T16:34:55","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T15:34:55","slug":"how-to-tie-dye-cupcakes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gousto.co.uk\/blog\/how-to-tie-dye-cupcakes","title":{"rendered":"How to Tie-Dye Cupcakes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Just like most of the UK, I&#8217;ve already tie-dyed all my t-shirts and tote bags, so when I saw this rainbow cupcakes trend, I knew I had to give it a go.<\/p>\n<p>And if you&#8217;re planning a sunny, festival-themed garden party, these little tie-dye bakes are easy to make and bound to brighten up the snack table.<\/p>\n<h2>Ingredients<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>250ml almond milk<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd tbsp lemon juice<\/li>\n<li>90ml neutral oil (e.g. vegetable, sunflower, canola)<\/li>\n<li>2 tsp vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>225g self raising flour<\/li>\n<li>200g caster sugar<\/li>\n<li>Pinch of salt<\/li>\n<li>2-5 food colouring gels of choice<\/li>\n<li>125g vegan fondant icing<\/li>\n<li>150g icing sugar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Step 1: <\/b>Preheat the oven to gas mark 4\/180\u00baC\/160\u00baC fan. Line a cupcake tin with cases.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step 2:<\/b> Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until combined.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step 3: <\/b>Separate the mixture into 3 bowls and add a few drops of food colouring to each, you can also leave one plain.\u00a0 Add the mixture to the cases in layers &#8211; don\u2019t worry about stirring them they will mix as they bake.\u00a0 Place in the oven for 18 minutes until cooked through and an inserted toothpick comes out clean.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step 4: <\/b>Remove from the tin and allow it to cool.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step 5: <\/b>Roll out the fondant icing until it is 2-4mm thick.\u00a0 Using a biscuit cutter, cut circles slightly smaller than the size of the top of your cupcakes.\u00a0 Brush a little water onto one side of the icing disc and then place it on top of the cupcake (slice a little off the top to make the cupcakes flat) pressing down round the sides to secure the icing.\u00a0 Repeat with the rest of the cupcakes.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step 6: <\/b>Mix together the icing sugar with 4 tbsp water\u00a0 in a baking dish.\u00a0 Add drops of food colouring gel then using a skewer drag through the gel colour to make a swirly pattern.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step 7: <\/b>Dip the iced cupcakes into the marbled icing to coat them with tie dye pattern then place on a wire baking rack to dry.\u00a0 Repeat until all the cupcakes are coloured, swirling through extra food colouring if needed.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Just like most of the UK, I&#8217;ve already tie-dyed all my t-shirts and tote bags, so when I saw this rainbow cupcakes trend, I knew I had to give it a go.
