However, if you can\u2019t see yourself limiting your love of animals to just the living ones any time soon, here are\u00a0<b>5 other reasons you might want to give a plant-based diet a try<\/b>.<\/p>\n<h2><b>1. There\u2019s never been a better time<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Veganuary becoming more popular is just the tip of the iceberg lettuce. At the end of 2017, chef Gizzi Erskine and nutritionist Rosemary Ferguson teamed up to launch vegan fast-food popup \u2018Pure Filth\u2019 at the Tate in London, and they\u2019re set to launch at a permanent location in early 2018.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s not just London\u2019s trendiest who are adopting a vegan diet.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.magnet.co.uk\/advice-inspiration\/blog\/20162\/november\/ahead-of-the-curve-students-and-clean-eating\/\">Recent research<\/a>\u00a0from kitchen specialists, Magnet found that\u00a0<b>students across the UK today are six times more likely to be vegan or vegetarian than their parents<\/b>. In short, the vegans are taking over \u2013 and if you can\u2019t beat \u2018em, why not join \u2018em?<\/p>\n<p>An even better reason why now is the time to give plant-based food a go is the \u2018save the planet\u2019 argument. Climate change is a more pressing threat than ever; in 2015 Obama said there was \u2018no greater threat\u2019 to the planet. You may be surprised to know \u2013 I definitely was \u2013 that livestock production makes \u201can even larger contribution than the transportation sector worldwide\u201d to global warming, according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.co.uk\/books?id=1B9LQQkm_qMC&amp;pg=PA272&amp;lpg=PA272&amp;dq#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false\">2006 United Nations report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10563\" src=\"https:\/\/gousto.gurucloud.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sidebar_india.jpg\" alt=\"indian vegetarian population\" width=\"1551\" height=\"554\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gousto.gurucloud.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sidebar_india.jpg 800w, https:\/\/gousto.gurucloud.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sidebar_india-300x107.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gousto.gurucloud.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sidebar_india-768x274.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gousto.gurucloud.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sidebar_india-1024x366.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>2. The weight loss reason<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Though delicious to many, meat is also exceptionally calorie dense, and usually high in fat, too. One of the only items of produce that is comparably calorific is the avocado (which, it turns out, is a fruit). However, these calories are largely made up of \u2018good\u2019 fats which, in moderation, can be beneficial and even lower cholesterol.<\/p>\n<p>But put it even more simply \u2013 the majority of fast-food out there involves animal products. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, fried chicken \u2013 a plant-based means you cut most of these out, and the weight loss results can be impressive\u2026. A 2009 study of the eating habits of thousands of Americans found that it was only those who followed a vegan diet that averaged a \u2018normal and healthy\u2019 BMI (Body Mass Index).<\/p>\n<h2><b>3. The \u201chearty\u201d plant-based diet<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>You can\u2019t really talk plant-based recipes without mentioning some of the pretty profound health benefits of a plant-based diet. While some people see this diet as a limitation, for others, it can help them live longer, happier, and healthier lives.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10561\" src=\"https:\/\/gousto.gurucloud.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/smiling-heart-beat-1.gif\" alt=\"why go vegan?\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a great deal of evidence to show that a plant-based diet can have a positive impact on your heart, and even reduce the chance of cardiovascular and coronary heart diseases. Celebrities, from Bill Clinton to Usher, have adopted a vegan or plant-based diet specifically because of the benefits it can have on the heart.<\/p>\n<h2><b>4. You won&#8217;t be saying goodbye to\u00a0every edible joy life has to offer.<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Many people believe that giving up meat, dairy and eggs is a big sacrifice. But it really doesn\u2019t need to be.<\/p>\n<p>There are loads of delicious ingredients, products and meals that you probably already eat which are vegan. If a few of your favourite foods appear in the list below, then maybe going vegan wouldn\u2019t be so bad after all\u2026<\/p>\n<p><b>Just a few vegan treats and snacks:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chips<\/li>\n<li>Starburst<\/li>\n<li>Love Hearts<\/li>\n<li>Bagels<\/li>\n<li>Peanut butter<\/li>\n<li>Marmite (debatably delicious, inarguably vegan)<\/li>\n<li>Hummus<\/li>\n<li>(Most) crisps<\/li>\n<li>Skittles<\/li>\n<li>Crispy seaweed (it\u2019s actually\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gousto.co.uk\/blog\/how-to-make-homemade-crisps-recipe\">crispy kale<\/a>!)<\/li>\n<li>Coca-cola<\/li>\n<li>Falafel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>5. Gousto makes cooking plant-based recipes easy<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>There are lots of people (and I\u2019m one of them!) who have been prepared to try out a plant-based diet, but have ended up either never starting, or giving up after a few days or weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Not because they miss meat, or they \u201cdon\u2019t get enough protein\u201d or they get bored of vegetables.
