5 A Day
Want to stay healthy? If the answer is yes, then have five fruit and vegetables as part of a balanced and healthy diet each day. Different fruit and vegetables contain different combinations of fibre, minerals, vitamins and other nutrients which if consumed on a daily basis can lower the risk of health problems including stroke, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and obesity.
So what actually counts as your 5 A DAY?
Fresh, frozen, tinned, dried and cooked fruit and vegetables, along with a glass (150ml) of unsweetened 100% fruit or vegetable juice.
A balanced diet should contain foods from four main food groups in the right proportions:
- Potatoes, pasta, rice, bread
- Fruit and vegetables
- Dairy and milk
- Meat, fish, eggs
Look out for the 5 A DAY portion indicator on food packets and aim for at least 5 A DAY!
